Ten firefighters and four civilians were injured in a fire in West New York which broke out late on Thanksgiving afternoon. According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, the County’s Regional Arson Task Force, North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue and the West New York Police Department investigating the blaze, which broke out around 5:30 pm at 5222 Bergenline Avenue.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez says responding units found heavy smoke and fire coming from the building. While battling the blaze, ten firefighters were injured, with two suffering serious injuries. Suarez says one firefighter remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
In addition, four civilians were treated for minor injuries and released. The fire was brought under control shortly before 8:30 on Thanksgiving night.
The Regional Arson Task Force has determined that the fire started in a bedroom of one the building’s apartments, but at this time, is not considered suspicious. The cause is still under investigation.
