Union City Celebrates Legacy of Dr. MLK, Jr. With Ceremony While Honoring BOE Employee

As Union City celebrated the legacy of civil rights leader, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Friday, the Board of Commissioners took time to honor a Board of Education employee.

Fitz Dyer, a Haitian immigrant and Union City’s African American of the Year, who works as a facilities supervisor at the Board of Education, as well as head varisty coach of the Union City High School girls soccer team, was presented with a city proclamation by Commissioners Celin Valdivia and Wendy Grullon.

Dyer told Hud News he was humbled and speechless by the honor, especially coming when the City is remembering the legacy of civil rights leader, the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Participating in the city’s celebration were members of the Union City Hugh School History Club and Honors Singers from the school.
