Jersey City Man Charged in December 2022 Hit & Run Which Seriously Injured Pedestrian

More than 14 months after a hit and run accident in Jersey City seriously injured a pedestrian, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has announced that charges against the driver have been filed.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez reports that on Wednesday, February 14, members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested 42-year-old, Jersey City resident Brandon Espinosa in connection with the December 6, 2022 incident.

Espinosa has been charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury, a crime of the third degree.  He also faces charges of endangering an injured victim, a crime of the third degree.   Prosecutor Suarez says Espinosa was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance.  That appearance is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024.

According to the Prosecutor, at approximately 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2022, Jersey City Police were notified notified that a pedestrian was struck at the corner of Griffith Street and Sherman Avenue.   When police arrived, they found a 36-year-old, Jersey City man, with serious injuries.   The victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.  The vehicle fled the scene and was recovered in the days following the collision.

Suarez says the above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
