Staten Island Woman Charged in Fatal Crash Involving Bayonne Teacher on Route 185 in Jersey City

Jersey City, NJ – Amanda Rivera, 28, of Staten Island, has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on February 3, 2024, in Jersey City. Rivera is facing charges of Aggravated Manslaughter, Reckless Manslaughter, and Assault by Auto.

The incident occurred on Route 185 near the Linden Avenue East intersection when Rivera’s 2019 Nissan sedan collided with the rear of a parked and unoccupied tractor-trailer. Three female occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Rivera and the front seat passenger, a 27-year-old female from Old Bridge, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, the backseat passenger, Stephanie Weymouth, 31, of Bayonne, was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m.

Following an investigation, it was determined that Rivera was driving while intoxicated at the time of the collision. The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department were credited with the investigation and arrest.

Rivera was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her first court appearance.

The charges against Rivera are merely accusations, and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
