Woman's Body Pulled From Newark Bay in Bayonne Two Weeks Ago Identified

A woman’s body pulled from Newark Bay near Stephen Gregg County Park in Bayonne on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 has been identified by family members.  According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, the body found was an 18-year old woman, but foul play is currently not suspected.

While the Prosecutor’s Office did not publicly ID the woman, a Filipino news outlet, ABS-CBN News, identified her as Hayley Erin “Lee” Avestruz Alvarado, a freshman at Montclair State University who had gone missing in December.  Social media posts stated she had left her Jersey City home late one night.

Alvarado’s funeral was yesterday, Tuesday, March 19th.  You can view her obituary here.

Funeral services took place at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church on Sullivan Drive in Jersey City.
