Man Charged With Murder In Connection To April Triple Shooting In Jersey City

20-year-old Darren Estevez of Jersey City has been arrested in connection with a triple shooting that occurred in Jersey City on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Estevez is charged with murder; conspiracy to commit murder; possession of weapon for an unlawful purpose; unlawful possession of a weapon; and two counts of aggravated assault.   Suarez says he was apprehended and arrested in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday, June 23, 2024, by members of the Orlando Police Department on an unrelated matter.

Estevez is being held as a fugitive from justice at the Orange County Corrections Department pending extradition to New Jersey.

Prosecutor Suarez says that during the early phases of the investigation, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit arrested 23-year old Aaliyah Rivera of Jersey City.  She is charged with murder as an accomplice and conspiracy to commit murder.   Rivera was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on April 24, 2024, and is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.

The sequence of events in this case were outlined in a press release from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office as follows:  “At approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Central Avenue and Bowers Street. Upon arrival, officers located two victims with apparent gunshot wounds and both were transported to Jersey City Medical Center.  Freddie Posey, 25, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m. A 30-year-old Jersey City female was treated for a non-life threatening injury. A third victim, a 24-year-old Jersey City male, self-transported to University Hospital in Newark with a non-life threatening injury.”

This crime remains under investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department.
