Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced that 21-year old, Union City resident Freddie Castro is the third suspect arrested in connection to a triple shooting which occurred in Jersey City on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
Castro has been charged with murder; conspiracy to commit murder; possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; unlawful possession of a weapon; and two counts of aggravated assault. He was arrested in Kissimmee, Florida, by members of the United States Marshals Service Florida/Caribbean Division in coordination with the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force on Thursday, July 11, 2024. Suarez says Castro will be detained at the Osceola County Corrections Department pending extradition to New Jersey.
According to a press release from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Central Avenue and Bowers Street. When officers arrived, they located two victims with apparent gunshot wounds. Both were transported to Jersey City Medical Center. Freddie Posey, 25, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m. A 30-year-old Jersey City female was treated for a non-life threatening injury. A third victim, a 24-year-old Jersey City male, self-transported to University Hospital in Newark with a non-life threatening injury.
Two additional defendants were previously arrested in connection with this matter.
20-year old Darren Esteves of Jersey City is charged with murder; conspiracy to commit murder; possession of weapon for an unlawful; unlawful possession of a weapon; and two counts of aggravated assault. Estevez was arrested in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday, June 23, 2024, by members of the Orlando Police Department and is being detained at the Orange County Corrections Department pending extradition to New Jersey.
23-year old Aaliyah Rivera of Jersey City is charged with murder as an accomplice and conspiracy to commit murder. She was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office by members of the Homicide Unit on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, and is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
The above charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
