West New York, NJ .- Mayor Albio Sires and the Board of Commissioners have unveiled an ambitious development plan for West New York, which promises significant upgrades to the town’s facilities and infrastructure without requiring additional taxpayer funding. The plan, set to be executed through a private-public partnership, will introduce a new state-of-the-art recreation center, expanded parking, and a new middle school.
The centerpiece of the initiative is a modern recreation center located adjacent to the historic Miller Stadium and Miller Park. Spanning 6.2 acres, the facility will offer a range of amenities including an indoor competitive pool, a multi-purpose court suitable for basketball and volleyball, an indoor soccer field, pickleball courts, and more. This new center is designed to meet the growing recreational needs of the community and will be a hub for various programs.
In addition to the recreation center, the plan includes the construction of two new parking garages. These will replace the existing surface lots at 58th Street & Madison Street and 66th Street & Park Avenue. The new garages will provide 400 additional public parking spaces, with dedicated parking for new residential developments in these areas.
“The recreation center will be a valuable asset for many of our programs,” said Mayor Sires. “We have doubled the recreational activities offered in the past year, and this center will support our expanding needs.”
The $35 million project will be funded through a combination of federal, state, private, and existing municipal funds. This financial strategy ensures that no additional taxpayer dollars will be needed to complete the project.
“This represents the largest public-private partnership in West New York’s history,” Sires noted. “We promised our residents a new school, a new recreation center, and ample parking. We are proud to deliver on that promise without asking for more from our taxpayers.”
The new middle school, which is part of the plan, will further enhance the town’s educational facilities, providing a modern learning environment for students.
