Secaucus officials joined Hudson County Executive Craig Guy on Tuesday for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Millridge Road Athletic Complex.  Two grants totaling more than $1 million resulted in the complete transformation of the flood-prone softball field.

A total of $1,055,297.86 in funding provided by Hudson County’s Open Space Trust Fund allowed for the development of a new, artificial field surface capable of hosting competitive youth baseball and softball games.

“Sports are a foundation of the Hudson County community and I’m proud that Hudson County’s Open Space Trust Fund will help upgrade Millridge Road field,” said Hudson County Executive Guy. “I sincerely appreciate the committed work done by Mayor Gonnelli, the Council members, and the Division of Planning to improve this field. This project is one of the many good things that County government and the municipalities can work together to accomplish. That is what government is all about – helping people, helping kids, and helping the community that will use this field.”

“This is a partnership that is going to continue, and we can’t thank County Executive Guy and the Board of Commissioners enough for doing what you’re doing here,” said Mayor Gonnelli. “We received grants to improve Millridge Road field and Shetik turf field, and on behalf of myself and the Council, we can’t thank the Hudson County Executive enough for all he does for the Town of Secaucus.”

In July, County Executive Guy announced recommendations for allocating over $8 million from the Hudson County Open Space, Recreation and Historical Preservation Trust Fund for 2024. These awards will fund projects like safety upgrades, green space improvements, and playground enhancements in all 12 Hudson County municipalities. These recommendations were approved the Hudson County Board of Commissioners on September 26, 2024.
