A fatal shooting that took place shortly before 5 pm on Friday, October 11, 2024 is under investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Garfield Avenue and Brown Place. Officers responding to the scene found a male victim, who was later identified as 19-year old, Jersey City resident Kashyne Grant, with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body. Suarez says he was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. He was pronounced dead just after 10 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024. Prosecutor Suarez says the cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
This incident is actively being investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department, but as of 11 am today, no arrests have been made.
