UPDATE: Jersey City Woman Charged In Connection To Bayonne Hit-And-Run On October 13th

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez is reporting that an arrest was recently made in connection to a hit-and-run accident which took place in Bayonne on October 13, 2024.

Suarez says members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested a Jersey City woman in connection with a hit-and-run that occurred in Bayonne on Sunday, October 13th.  37-year old Kalimah Toon is charged with aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a crime of the second degree; aggravated assault, a crime of the third degree; possession of a weapon (motor vehicle) for an unlawful purpose, a crime of the third degree; unlawful possession of a weapon (motor vehicle), a crime of the fourth degree; knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury, a crime of the third degree; endangering an injured victim, a crime of the third degree; and hindering, a crime of the third degree.  Toon was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her first court appearance.

The Prosecutor’s Office says at approximately 12:20 a.m. on October 13, 2024, the Bayonne Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Route 440 and 22nd Street. Responding officers located a male victim, later identified as a 34-year-old Bayonne resident, with life-threatening injuries. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene. The male was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

During the investigation, it was determined Toon and the victim were involved in an altercation on the shoulder of Route 440. Toon then entered a Ford Escape and intentionally struck the victim with the vehicle. The victim and defendant are known to one another. Toon is employed as a public safety dispatcher in Jersey City.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Bayonne Police Department with the arrest and investigation. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
