Disturbing news out of Union City according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested 48-year old, Union City resident Edgar Fernando-Gomez on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 after investigating reports that he made sexual contact with a 6-year-old, female juvenile.
Fernando-Gomez has been charged with sexual assault by contact, a crime of the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child, a crime of the third degree. Suarez says he was arrested at his home and taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, pending his first court appearance. The alleged crimes were committed on May 19, 2024, at a Jersey City residence. Prosecutor Suarez says the defendant knew the juvenile victim.
The charges against Fernando-Gomez are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
