Assemblyman Allen Applauds Hoboken Council For Supporting Climate Superfund Legislation

Assemblyman John Allen (D-District 32) is praising the Hoboken City Council for their support of this Climate Superfund Bill.  The Council unanimously passed a resolution last night backing the Assemblyman’s legislation.

According to a press release, “The Climate Superfund Act (A 4696) would collect funds from the fossil fuel companies responsible in large measure for the climate change that is resulting in costly negative impacts to New Jersey communities, including Hoboken and Jersey City.  These compensatory payments would be used for grants for climate change adaptation and resiliency projects.”

Assemblyman Allen’s District 32 colleague, Assemblywoman Jessica Ramirez, is a co-sponsored of the bill.

Assemblyman Allen stated, “With climate change-related costs skyrocketing, it is crucial that we shift the burden to the oil companies responsible for the emissions that contribute to extreme weather events and other climate-related disasters we are experiencing with an alarming frequency.  That is what the Climate Superfund Act will do”.

Allen continued, “The Hoboken City Council’s support will help build momentum for its passage. I thank Councilman Jim Doyle for introducing the resolution and I pledge to work hard to secure the bill’s adoption.”

A companion version of the legislation, S3545, is advancing in the State Senate.  Hudson County State Senators Angela McKnight (D-District 31) and Raj Mukherji (D-District 32) are among its co-sponsors.
