The Union City Police Department, below the mandated number of officers due to recent retirements, has sworn in nine recruits, who will now head to the Passaic County Police Academy for twenty weeks of training beginning in mid-May.
All of the new officers are residents of Union City. They took their oaths of office during a ceremony held at the William Musto Center on Tuesday morning before family and friends.
According to Police Chief Anthony Facchini, the Department now has 119 officers, but due to recent retirements, it is still below the mandated number allowed, so another swearing ceremony will be taking place, likely in time for a July class. The current recruits will be ready to hit the streets in October.
The current class includes eight men and one woman. They are:
- Orien Navarro
- Jose Morales
- Esmeralda de la Rosa
- Adonys Luciano
- Carolos Beltran
- Angel Rodriguez
- Jan Gutierrez
- Justin Moreira
- Ismael Landaverde
