Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla, the City’s Cultural Affairs Division, and the Hoboken Puerto Rican Cultural Committee have announced the activities  for the City’s Hoboken Puerto Rican Heritage Week Celebration.  The celebration is in honor of the rich culture and traditions of the Puerto Rican community and its impact on Hoboken.

The Mayor stated, “Puerto Rican Heritage Week is a time to honor the vibrant culture, rich history, and enduring contributions of our Puerto Rican community here in Hoboken.  This week is an opportunity to come together to enjoy local events that highlight music, dance, and the neighbors who continue to help shape the heart of our city. I thank the PRCC for helping to keep the culture and traditions alive and look forward to celebrating the diversity that makes Hoboken so special.”

Founded in the mid-1980s, the Hoboken PRCC has a goal of preserving the Puerto Rican Heritage in the city and beyond through a variety of cultural and civic activities.

PRCC President Raul Morales II added, “The Puerto Rican Culture Committee is proud to partner with the City of Hoboken to bring vibrant cultural programming to our community.  These initiatives not only celebrate our rich heritage and traditions but also foster ethnic pride and unity. We look forward to sharing the warmth, joy, and resilience of Puerto Rican culture with residents and visitors alike.”

The festivities begin today, Tuesday, June 3, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the plaza at Seventh and Jackson Streets with renowned music educator Angel LaBoy. Residents and community members are invited to come learn and practice vibrant traditional Puerto Rican dance and music, including Bomba and Plena.

On Wednesday, June 4 at 7 p.m., Hoboken community members are invited to Sinatra Park for a live waterfront salsa concert with Kevin Rodriguez and the Salsa All-Stars.

On Saturday, June 7, PRCC will sponsor a ceremony in City Hall council chambers at 11 a.m., followed by a senior lunch in the Multi-Service Center senior room, located at 124 Grand Street.  Entertainment will be provided by the salsa band La Experiencia.
