Learning discipline, leadership skills and police policies were all part of the West New York Police Department’s Summer Leadership Camp, which held its graduation ceremony at School #3 on Wednesday evening.
A total of 43 youngsters in grades five through nine graduated from the program, which was in its second year in a revamped version under the Sires Administration.
The cadets learned marching drills from the Army National Guard, received classroom instruction from a variety of law enforcement entities, and even had a visit from a State Police helicopter. and North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Department.
The program, which ran for eight days, was held in cooperation with the West New York Board of Education.
Each of the cadets received medals and certificates during Wednesday night’s graduation ceremony. Several received trophies or plaques for their outstanding participation in the camp.
West New Police say the number of attendees nearly doubled from last summer. They hope it grows even more next year.
