On Wednesday night the Hoboken City Council adopted legislation clarifying the City’s cannabis ordinance.  The clarification exempts any cannabis dispensary that applied to the Cannabis Review Board prior to the effective date of an amendment prohibiting cannabis businesses from opening within 600-feet of an early childhood learning facility.

Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla thanked the Council for adopting the clarification.

In a statement, Bhalla said, “The passage of this ordinance ensures that lawfully operating small businesses, such as Blue Violets, which followed the rules and applied in good faith before the 600-foot buffer was enacted, can continue to serve our community without fear of being shut down. This ordinance brings much-needed clarity and fairness to both business owners and residents who rely on safe, legal access to cannabis products. Our cannabis businesses have operated responsibly, acted as good corporate citizens, and contributed meaningful revenue that benefits our entire city. I commend the Council for listening to our community and acting decisively to protect local access and uphold the integrity of our review process.”
