The North Bergen Board of Education has announced the appointment of Lorgia Hector to fill the unexpired term of longtime trustee Luis Diaz, who passed away in December.  Mrs. Hector brings extensive experience in financial management, organizational leadership and decision-making.

In a statement, Hector said, “I am honored to join the North Bergen Board of Education and to continue the important work of supporting our students and schools.  I look forward to working with my fellow board members, educators, and families to ensure every child in North Bergen has the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.”

A press release from the township states Hector has been a North Bergen resident for 34 years and is the mother of four children and grandmother to one grandson.  She is self-employed and serves as a real estate manager, with extensive experience in budgeting, financial planning, and decision-making.  She studied business at Berkley College in Manhattan as well as Cornell University, and has professional experience with Chase Manhattan in private banking and as an assistant treasurer.  She is fluent in both Spanish and English and brings a deep passion for education to her new role.  Her husband, Tony Hector, is a former North Bergen Board of Education trustee.

North Bergen Superintendent of Schools Dr. George Solter added, “Lorgia Hector brings a wealth of professional experience and a strong commitment to the success of our students.  Her knowledge of finance, leadership skills, and dedication to education will make her a valuable addition to the Board as we continue to advance learning opportunities for all North Bergen students.”

Luis Diaz, who passed away at the age of 85, served on the North Bergen Board of Education for more than 20 years and was Board President in his final year.

In speaking of the late Board President, Mayor Nicholas Sacco stated, “The passing of Luis Diaz was a profound loss for our community. His wisdom, compassion, and tireless advocacy helped shape the future of our schools, and we are deeply grateful for the legacy of service he leaves behind. Lorgia’s dedication to North Bergen, along with her strong financial and leadership skills, make her an excellent choice to continue the important work of the Board. I am confident she will serve our students and families with the same integrity, commitment, and care that Luis demonstrated for over two decades.”
