Union City Commissioners are seeking Green Acres funds to upgrade Ellsworth Park.  The Board applied last year, but revisions to the renovations are being proposed, with Colliers Engineering & Design of Mt. Arlington, New Jersey presenting the proposed changes during Tuesday night’s Commission meeting.

Among the proposed renovations are improved pavers being stabilized in the ground to prevent flooding; additional shrubbery and trees; a self-sanitizing rest room; playground upgrades; lighting and cameras which will be connected to the Police Department for added safety.
According to Mayor Brian Stack, the City should receive word within a year as to whether their Green Acres request is accepted.
During the meeting, the Commissioners also honored the Union City High School’s girls swim team on winning another Hudson County championship.  It was the team’s seventh County title in a row and the tenth in the past eleven years.
Each of the squad’s members received a city citation for their efforts.
Coach Peter Sinagra says the reason for the squad’s consistency is hard work by the girls and a commitment to excellence.
