Weehawken reopened Louisa Park with a ribbon cutting on Thursday morning, much to the delight of Roosevelt School fourth graders and neighborhood residents.  The park overlooks the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline along Boulevard East.

The park had been closed for a complete renovation for upwards of a year.  It has undergone a total transformation, with many new features having been added.

Among those features are new jungle gym equipment and rubberized safety padding plus swings.  There’s a water spray area; benches beneath shaded covering; a pickle ball court; a basketball court; and most importantly, a bathroom as requested by residents.  A new retaining wall was also needed.

The park was renovated at a cost of $1.8-million, with the majority of the payment coming from state and county grants, something Mayor Richard Turner says was a priority.

All in all, everyone was thrilled with the final outcome of the park.  It will certainly be heavily utilized by school kids and the neighborhood at large.
