Hundreds of senior citizens from Union City were treated to a special Mother’s Day luncheon at the Colin Powell elementary School on Saturday afternoon.
The event, courtesy of Mayor Brian Stack and the Board of Commissioners, featured music, dancing and a terrific, hot meal. The event has become an annual tradition in the city.

Besides the Commissioners, others in attendance included Congressman Rob Menendez, 33rd District Assemblyman Larry Wainstein and Hudson County Commissioner Fanny Cedeno.

Members of the Union City High School Junior ROTC Program served the food which was catered by a local establishment. All the senior citizens received a box of chocolates, as well as a raffle ticket.
The raffle was for some ceramic pieces painted by the city’s senior citizens who attend the morning, seniors’ painting workshops at 3700 Palisade Avenue and at the Musto Cultural Center on 15th Street. Liliana Barrera, Union City’s Special Events Coordinator, announced that an adult, evening workshop is being added early this summer.
In June, adults and senior citizens will be able to sign up for the evening, painting workshop, which will take place twice a week at the Musto Center. Interested residents can sign up for the workshop by contacting Alexandra Gonzalez in the senior’s office at City Hall.
