Local drivers are advised NOT to use credit cards at Bayonne parking meters until further notice, due to a credit card processing issue that requires a software upgrade to the meter system.
Parking meters remain operational through two other payment methods: coins and the mobile parking app. The City is currently evaluating the most cost-effective software upgrade options, in consultation with the meter manufacturer and other affected communities experiencing similar issues. Due to the nature of the required system upgrades, the matter will require additional time to resolve adequately.
To help inform the public, the Parking Utility will soon be placing stickers on meters advising drivers to avoid using credit cards at this time.
The Bayonne Parking Utility apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation while this matter is being addressed in the most cost-effective manner. If motorists discover a Bayonne parking meter that is completely out of service, they should notify the Parking Utility by calling 201-858-6061.
