It was a very special afternoon on Saturday, as West New York’s own, Ada Ferrer, a Memorial High School graduate and Pulitzer Prize winning author, returned to her home town for a discussion about her new memoir, Keeper of My Kin.

The Q and A was held at West New York’s recently opened Community Center on Bergenline Avenue.

The free community event offered attendees a unique opportunity to hear from one of the most distinguished voices in contemporary literature and history.  In addition to her memoir, Ferrer is the author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book Cuba: An American History.

Ferrer’s memoir is a deeply moving work in which she explores themes of migration, family, identity, and resilience, weaving together the stories of multiple generations with the historic events that shaped their lives.

A renowned historian of Latin America and the Caribbean, Ferrer serves as a Professor of History at Princeton University. Her scholarly work focuses on the histories of slavery, emancipation, revolutions, and social transformation across the Americas.

Ferrer’s visit provided a wonderful opportunity for the community to celebrate the achievements of one of its most distinguished daughters while engaging in an enriching conversation about history, culture, and identity.
