The Union City Junior Police Academy came to an end this week, but not before 36 youngsters, more than triple last summer, experienced what goes into be a law enforcement officer or a firefighter.
In Thursday, the kids took a field trip to North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue headquarters in West New York where firefighters showed them how they extricate a motorist trapped in a vehicle following a car accident.
22 of the academy attendees were girls.
The campers got to see all of the fire department’s equipment and tools, the gear they wear, and the fire house.
The attendees, many of whom have attended the academy in past summers, totally enjoyed the week’s experience and got a better understanding of what it takes to become a law enforcement officer or a first responder.
