Incoming 7th graders at Emerson Middle Schhol in Union City attended Thursday’s orientation session ahead of next week’s opening of school.
Approximately 350 7th grade students will attend classes this year at Emerson. Many of those students, along with their parents, were at Thursday’s orientation. They learned many things from the school’s administrators, including principal Raymond Coccioli.
They were told they will be entering the school through a metal detector. When they arrive at the school each day at 8 am sharp, they will enter the gym and sit down where their homeroom number is indicated. They will then be escorted to class by their teacher.
They were told about the school dress code; the state’s new, cell phone policy…no cell phones allowed in classes. The phones will be kept in the main office until school ends each day. They were told about the lunch period and the fact that no outside food, other than lunches made at home, may be brought into the building in the morning.
Everything described to the students and their parents was intended to make the transition from elementary to middle school as easy as possible.
Classes begin on September 10th.
