Child injured after being struck by responding ambulance in Hoboken, police say

HOBOKEN — A young child was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after running into the path of an ambulance responding to an emergency call in Hoboken, News 12 New Jersey reported.

Hoboken police responded to the 200 block of Third Street at about 3 p.m. after reports of an incident involving a child and an emergency vehicle, according to News 12.

A preliminary investigation by the Hoboken Police Department’s Traffic and Transportation Bureau found that the child ran into the street and into the path of an oncoming ambulance that was responding to an unrelated call, News 12 reported.

The child suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to News 12. EMS personnel involved in the incident were also evaluated at the scene. Police said roads closed for the investigation have reopened.

Hoboken Patch also reported the incident, citing Public Safety spokeswoman Marci Rubin, who said the child was listed in stable condition at an area hospital and that ambulance personnel were being evaluated. Patch said police had briefly asked residents to avoid Third Street between Garden Street and Park Avenue before roads reopened.
