Flooding closes Meadowlands Parkway and Kearny highways as nor'easter hits Hudson County

HUDSON COUNTY — Flooding from Saturday’s nor’easter closed key roads in Secaucus and Kearny, according to Secaucus Police and earlier New Jersey Department of Transportation listings on 511NJ.

As of 10 a.m. Saturday, Secaucus Police closed Meadowlands Parkway at 10th Street; Route 3 east at Meadowlands Parkway; Meadowlands Parkway at Cove Court northbound; and Meadowlands Parkway at Wood Avenue, according to Secaucus Police information reported Saturday morning. By about 11 a.m., several parts of Meadowlands Parkway were flooded and impassable, including Meadowlands Parkway north at Krauszer’s toward Route 3, which was flooded and closed to drivers, according to the same local reporting. Route 3 east at Meadowlands Parkway was described among the most serious closures.

Earlier Saturday morning, NJDOT’s 511NJ Current Incidents list showed flooding on New Jersey Route 7 westbound north of County Route 508 in Kearny with all lanes closed (listed as of 10:05 a.m.), and flooding on U.S. 1&9 Truck Route northbound at Hackensack Avenue in Kearny with one right lane of three closed (listed as of 10:19 a.m.). Those Kearny items were still showing on the 511NJ homepage around 11:57 a.m. ET. NJDOT/511NJ had also listed Route 3 eastbound at Meadowlands Parkway closed earlier Saturday morning; that Route 3 highway item was not on the live 511NJ incidents list by about noon. Motorists should check 511NJ.org for the latest status before traveling.

A National Weather Service Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect for Hudson County through 6 p.m. EDT Sunday, with 1 to 2 feet of inundation possible in vulnerable waterfront and shoreline areas.

Never drive through floodwater or around barricades. Turn around if a road is flooded or closed.
