Hoboken lifts limited boil-water advisory for eastern blocks after main repair

HOBOKEN — The City of Hoboken has lifted the localized boil-water advisory for parts of eastern Hoboken, saying it is no longer necessary for impacted water customers to boil water before consumption.

On Sept. 24, residents were notified of potential compromised drinking water due to pressure loss when a contractor struck and damaged a water main near 9th Street and Sinatra Drive. As a precaution, the advisory covered Second to 12th Street and Bloomfield Street to Sinatra Drive.

Water quality testing following repairs to the main shows the water quality meets all regulatory standards, the city said in a Saturday release.

For those who were under the advisory, the city strongly encouraged these measures:

• Run faucets for 3–5 minutes to flush the service connection and interior plumbing.
• Empty and clean automatic ice makers and water chillers.
• Drain and refill the hot water heater if the temperature is set below 113°F.
• Run a regeneration cycle — or follow manufacturer procedures — for water softener or cartridge filters.
• Drain and refill tall-building water reservoirs as applicable.

2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher urged residents to check with neighbors who may not have heard the update.
