The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for Hudson County that runs until 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, warning of minor flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
NWS New York (Upton, N.Y.) issued the advisory at 5:21 p.m. At that time, Doppler radar showed an area of moderate to briefly heavy rain, and between half an inch and an inch of rain had already fallen. Another half inch to an inch is expected, which forecasters say will cause minor flooding. The weather service says flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Jersey City and Bayonne are among the places the NWS lists as likely to see flooding. The advisory also covers Bergen, Essex, eastern Passaic and Union counties in New Jersey, the five boroughs of New York City, western Nassau, Rockland and southern Westchester counties in New York, and southern Fairfield County in Connecticut.
The weather service’s warning to drivers: “Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
As of this report, Hudson TV had not seen any official road closures or rescues announced in Hudson County. Flood safety tips are available at weather.gov/safety/flood.
