39-year old Carl Degnan of 37th Street in Union City has been arrested by Bayonne Police for an incident at 4:40 pm on Wednesday. According to Captain Eric Amato, Degnan was taken into custody in the area of 45th Street and Broadway. Officers responded to the area on a report of an intoxicated male, later identified as Degnan, behaving belligerently.
Amato says as officers encountered Degnan, he continued to behave belligerently while flailing his arms in an aggressive manner. After refusing medical attention, he proceeded to walk away while continuing his disorderly conduct, ultimately entering a business on 45th Street and Broadway.
That’s when police officers responded to the business where they found Degnan holding a wine bottle while threatening an officer with it. After initially disregarding numerous commands to drop the bottle, Degnan ultimately complied and left the store. While officers attempted to arrest him outside of the store, Degnan made numerous attempts to leave before taking a fighting stance, threatening the officers. He was then placed under arrest.
He has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
