BAYONNE, NJ – A 61-year-old Jersey City man was arrested last week after an armed robbery incident at the Walmart store in Bayonne.
Steven C. Felton was taken into custody on April 18th in the area of 22nd Street and Route 440 in Bayonne, shortly after he allegedly shoplifted steaks from the retailer and threatened loss prevention officers with a knife.

According to Bayonne Police Captain Eric Amato, officers responded to the Walmart located on Lefante Way after receiving a report of an attempted robbery in progress. While en route, a description of the suspect, later identified as Felton, was broadcast to all responding officers.
Police say loss prevention officers at the Bayonne Walmart observed Felton placing steaks into his backpack in an attempt to shoplift the merchandise. When they approached Felton as he exited the store and demanded the stolen items back, he allegedly became combative and uncooperative.

Authorities state that Felton used a knife to attempt to slash the arms of the loss prevention officers, though he was unsuccessful. He then fled the scene on foot with the stolen merchandise. Officers quickly located Felton in the vicinity of 22nd Street and Route 440 in Bayonne and took him into custody.

During the investigation, police recovered a knife believed to be the one used in the incident, as well as the stolen steaks from Felton’s backpack. Narcotic paraphernalia was also found on him during a search incident to the arrest.

Felton, a Jersey City resident, has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. He is currently being held at the Hudson County Jail pending a court appearance.

The Bayonne Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident at the local Walmart. Anyone with information is urged to contact the department’s tip line.
