The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department are investigating a fatal fire that occurred shortly past 3 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon, March 11, 2025.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the Jersey City Fire Department responded to a fire at 289 Van Nostrand Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found fire within a second floor unit. As fire suppression activities were ongoing, firefighters located an injured male, who later was identified as 53-year old Terrance Culbreath of Jersey City, in the kitchen of the unit. Prosecutor Suarez says Culbreath was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just after 4 p.m.
The fire remains under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department. Suarez says foul play is not suspected at this time.
