Arson Task Force Investigating Thursday’s York Street Fire In Jersey City

The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department are investigating a fire that happened on York Street in Jersey City on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, just after 1:30 p.m., the Jersey City Fire Department was notified of a fire at 318 York Street.  A press release from the Prosecutor’s Office states, “Upon arrival, first responders observed fire in the basement apartment. During suppression activities, firefighters located an injured 97-year-old male who lived at that location. He was initially transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center with serious bodily injuries and in critical condition. He was later transported to the Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center Burn Unit in Livingston where he remains in stable condition.”

The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is actively investigating the origin and cause of the fire with assistance from the Jersey City Fire Department.  Suarez says that foul play is not suspected at this time.
