As COVID Variant Spikes, Weehawken Announces Vaccine Availability

Infections of the Delta variant of the coronavirus are on the rise across the United States.  The variant, by all medical accounts, is 60 percent more transmissible than the original COVID virus, and it primarily attacks the unvaccinated.

Medical experts also are saying that the Delta variant is more contagious and more severe than the initial version of the virus.  That’s why the township of Weehawken and Mayor Richard Turner have announced that, in an effort to keep citizens out of the hospital and healthy, they are encouraging the unvaccinated to get the vaccination.  Vaccines, both Moderna and Pfizer, will be available next week at the Weehawken Senior Nutrition Site.

The dates of availability are:

  • Thursday, August 5th from 3 pm to 8 pm
  • Saturday, August 7th from 10 am to 2 pm

The Nutrition Center is located at 201 Highwood Avenue.  You must register.  Just call (201) 319-6005 during normal business hours, or go online to and fill out the form.

Any child aged 12 to 17 must have parental or guardian consent to receive the vaccine, which at this time is only Pfizer for juveniles.
