Bayonne BOE Reorganizes, Keeping Leadership Status Quo & Giving Teachers New, 4-Yr. Deal

During Tuesday’s Bayonne Board of Education reorganization meeting, trustees unanimously decided to retain its leadership structure.  Board President Maria Valado and Vice President Chris Munoz remain in those roles respectively.

In addition, despite having six months remaining on the district’s contract with its teachers, the Board approved a new, four year deal with its teaching staff.  This is the first time in more than three decades that such a contract settlement has been achieved in advance of a contract’s expiration.

The new contract runs from September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2025.  It will pay out a 3.58 percent increase in year one, followed by raises of three percent in each of the next three years.

Bayonne students continue to be taught remotely, with the goal of eventually returning students to the classroom before the end of the school year in June.
