Bayonne Breaks Ground For New 25th St. Pedestrian Bridge

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, members of the City Council, local residents and the design architects for the 25th Street pedestrian replacement bridge gathered this afternoon at the eastern end of the existing bridge at Prospect Avenue for a ceremonial groundbreaking.  The existing structure, which crosses over the NJ Transit Hudson-Bergen Light Rail tracks is going to be replaced due to its age and poor condition.

The new bridge, which will be handicapped accessible with the installation of two elevators, is expected to cost approximately $2.7-million.  The city will be using grant money, bonding and funds from local developers to pay for the project.  Bayonne is also planning to build two more pedestrian bridges, with those being constructed over Route 440.   The 25th Street pedestrian bridge is expected to be completed sometime in the fall.
