Mayor Sharon Nadrowski has announced that the City of Bayonne has begun live streaming City Council meetings on YouTube.
Mayor Nadrowski said, “Live streaming Council meetings is part of our new administration’s policy to make government more transparent and accessible.” She continued, “Since the 1990’s, BAY-TV, the municipal television station, has carried Council meetings and other local government events on cable television. In recent years, many residents have switched from cable TV to streaming services. The City of Bayonne needs to keep up with changing times by providing coverage of Council meetings to both cable and streaming customers.” City Council President Melissa Godesky-Rodriguez said, “One of our priorities has always been making government more transparent and accessible. Live streaming City Council meetings gives every resident the opportunity to stay informed, follow the discussions that impact our community, and be part of the process, even if they can’t attend in person. This is an important step toward building a more open and connected Bayonne.” Council President Godesky-Rodriguez continued, “I’m proud that, working together, we’ve been able to deliver on our commitment to make City Council meetings more accessible, transparent, and convenient for every resident of Bayonne. This is another positive step toward strengthening trust, encouraging civic engagement, and ensuring local government is open to everyone.”
There were some livestreams of Council meetings during the COVID pandemic in 2020 and 2021, but that ended as more people returned to meetings in person. Mayor Nadrowski said that the new livestreaming of Council meetings would be permanent.
BAY-TV did a trial run of the new live streaming service during the Council Caucus on Wednesday, July 15. The City of Bayonne launched the new live streaming officially with the Council meeting on Wednesday, July 22.
Going forward, Mayor Nadrowski said that the administration will be examining ways to update the City of Bayonne’s television equipment and to improve the picture quality for the viewers at home.
Anyone interested in seeing the BAY-TV video of the first live streamed Council meeting should visit YouTube online and search for “Bayonne City Council Meeting” and “Meeting of July 22nd, 2026.” Another option for viewing that Council meeting is visiting the City of Bayonne Channel on YouTube, going to the channel’s video display of past live streamed meetings, and clicking on the video for the meeting of July 22.
BAY-TV reruns of the Council meeting will appear on Optimum Channel 78 and Verizon Fios Channel 42.
