COVID-19 UPDATE 4/8/2020
Mayor Davis has directed OEM to keep residents informed on all the latest information
related to this health emergency.
We have learned of the passing of two more Bayonne residents. Two gentlemen, aged
77 and 70, have passed away from Coronavirus-related illness. Mayor Davis extends
his condolences, on behalf of all of Bayonne, to the families of both of these men.
Here are the latest stats:
NJ Residents Positive – 47,437
NJ Residents Negative – NO LONGER REPORTED
NJ Residents Percent Positivity –
43.95%
Hudson County Residents Positive – 5,437
Bayonne Residents CURRENTLY Positive –331*
The number above reflects only the Bayonne residents that are CURRENTLY COVID-19 Positive.
We have over 40 residents that are RECOVERED.
Recovered patients no longer have to isolate or be reported. Most of the current positive residents are recovering at home.
IF YOU CAN’T GET TESTED, AND HAVE SYPMTOMS OF COVID-19, ASSUME THAT YOU ARE POSITIVE AND FOLLOW SELF-ISOLATION AND TREATMENT ORDERS FROM YOUR PHYSICIAN
IMPORTANT Testing Information:
NO ONE WILL BE TESTED AT ANY SITE UNLESS YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS. Regardless of testing location, we are not aware of ANY testing site that will perform a test unless you are symptomatic (includes at least fever and cough).
If you have these symptoms and have not been tested, ASSUME THAT YOU ARE POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS and follow your doctor’s instructions on self-isolation and treatment.
Anyone that is currently ill and experiences a deterioration of symptoms, including difficulty breathing should call your physician or dial 9-1-1.
Due to the limited number of tests available at any site, NO ONE WILL BE TESTED UNLESS YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS.
Please do not contact Bayonne Office of Emergency Management for testing, as we do not have the ability to schedule anyone for testing.
TESTING OPTION:
Do you need to be tested? You can call the Hudson County
COVID-19 Testing Facility (Secaucus). You will be screened and given an appointment
(no script needed).
NO ONE WILL BE TESTED UNLESS YOU ARE
SYMPTOMATIC
. Medical professionals continue to advise that using a test on an
asymptomatic person can give a false NEGATIVE, wasting that test kit. The numbers to
call for the HC Testing Site are:
201-388-1097 or 646-862-1161.
Keep in mind that
anyone that is being tested, must be symptomatic.
BMC Testing at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium
:
BMC will continue testing tomorrow
(10am-12pm) at Vet’s for patients of BMC physicians, Bayonne First Responders and
Healthcare workers. BMC is actively seeking test kits to expand testing to patients of all
doctors within Bayonne. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS SITE WITHOUT AN
APPOINTMENT. VETERANS STADIUM WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC
DURING THESE HOURS.
PARKS INFORMATION
: The Governor has ordered all STATE and COUNTY parks
CLOSED.
City Parks will remain open for residents to get exercise. Please continue
to practice social distance with anyone that isn’t in your family.
CITY HALL HOTLINE INFORMATION:
The mayor’s hotlines have new hours:
Senior Citizen Hotline 201-858-6705 and General Hotline 201-858-6105 will both be
staffed for calls during City Hall temporary hours 9am-3pm. If you call either number
out of hours, please leave a message with callback number and someone will return your
call during business hours.
POST OFFICE INFORMATION
: The Post Office is dealing with shortages of
personnel. During this crisis, they are operating on a day-to-day basis on services. If you
have a Post Office Box at the Main Post Office, the lobby is usually open, however, they
have not been able to open the lobbies at Bergen Point and Pamrapo stations. Also, they
have not had personnel to open any window service, and many postal routes cannot be
completed due to lack of personnel. Please do NOT call the Bayonne Police or OEM
with questions about the Post Office as this is all the information that we currently have.
Please go to

or dial 2-1-1 for information related to this virus.
