Bayonne Evacuation Turns Out To Be “Inert Replica,” Not Grenade

A lot of emergency, first responder activity in Bayonne this afternoon thankfully turned out not to be a potentially, dangerous and harmful situation.  The incident unfoleded shortly before 3 pm according to the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management.
At 2:51pm at 2nd Street and Zabriske Avenue, first responders were dispatched to 64 W. 2nd Street on a report of a possible grenade.  According to Bayonne OEM, “A worker inside the building located the item while moving some boxes. Bayonne Fire, along with Bayonne Police, McCabe EMS, Hudson County Sheriff Office, and Bayonne OEM secured the area, which included the temporary evacuation of some homes on West 2nd and Zabriske Avenue.”
              The Jersey City Police Bomb Squad/ESU responded to the scene and found the item to be an inert replica.
All residents were allowed back in their homes by 4:30pm.  No injuries occurred as a result of the incident.
