Bayonne Fire Department Battles 2 Blazes This Afternoon, Dog Dies, 3 Displaced

“The Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to 170 West 25th Street at 2:10 pm today for a report of smoke coming from the 2nd floor. Firefighters found fire in the wall of the two-story building.

Firefighters used a hand line to extinguish the blaze and the fire was placed under control at 2:25pm. The Building Department responded and determined that due to minimal damage, all occupants could return home. A fire investigation is underway, however, the fire is not considered suspicious in nature. No injuries were reported.

This afternoon at 4:03 pm, the Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire at 108 West 3rd St. Arriving fire companies found a heavy smoke and fire condition on the first floor of the two-story attached building. The fire progressed to a second alarm. Three hose lines were deployed by firefighters to extinguish the fire and prevent the fire from extending to the second floor and to the attached building next door. The fire was placed under control at 4:49pm.

Firefighters rescued one canine and recovered one deceased canine from the fire building. Three people are displaced from the fire building and are under the care of the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management. There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation and is not considered suspicious as of this writing.

This was the second fire that occurred today where our firefighters quick actions prevented the fire from spreading.
