A Tuesday evening knife fight between two Bayonne neighbors led to the arrest of one man, but neither participant was injured.  According to Bayonne police Captain Eric Amato, 54-year old Stephen W. Pierce of Avenue E in Bayonne has been arrested on charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Amato says Pierce was taken into custody at 8:42 on Tuesday night from the area of 22nd Street and Avenue E.  Officers responded to the area after receiving a report of two males fighting.  Upon arrival, they were met by the 31-year old male victim, who stated that he was just assaulted with a knife by Pierce.

Captain Amato says, according to the victim, while taking out the trash, a verbal altercation ensued between him and Pierce.  During the verbal altercation, Pierce brandished a knife and swung it at the victim two times.  Pierce then put the knife in his pocket and the two males became involved in a brief physical altercation.   Then both men returned to their residences.

Amato says an on-scene investigation resulted in Pierce being placed under arrest.
