With autumn here and the leaves falling, the City of Bayonne has announced that leaf recycling will begin Monday night, October 20th.
Curbside pick-up of autumn leaves will take place on ten Mondays in the fall. The pick-ups will take place citywide through December 22, 2025. Residents may place leaves in special ecology-friendly leaf bags, in barrels, or in paper bags. Plastic bags are unacceptable and will be rejected for pick-up.
Beginning Tuesday, October 14th, the ecology-friendly leaf bags can be picked up in Room 13 at City Hall (630 Avenue C), the 4th Street Senior Center (4th Street and Story Court), and the 56th Street Senior Center (56th Street and Avenue B), from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays. City employees will issue one packet of five bags per household at a time.
The term “leaves” means foliage only. Specifically excluded from this definition are grass clippings, hedge clippings, tree parts, shrubbery and other types of vegetative waste.
The Public Works Department requires reservations for leaf pick-ups. Anyone who would like to request leaf pick-up on Mondays must call to make a reservation by calling 201-858-6123 no later than 4:00 p.m. on the preceding Friday. After hours, leave a message on voicemail. Leaf collection will start on Mondays, October 20 through December 22, at 8:00 p.m., so residents who have made reservations for pick-ups should put their leaves out on Monday evening after 3:00 p.m. to ensure pick-up.
