39-year old Tyrell McKenzie of Stegman Street in Jersey City was arrested at 5:36 on Tuesday afternoon near Broadway and 54th Street in Bayonne.
According to Captain Eric Amato, McKenzie was driving a motor vehicle when police stopped him. A search resulted in the recovery of a loaded, .38 caliber hundgun. Further investigation led police to discover that McKenzie was someone who was not supposed to be in possession of a weapon.
He has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of the weapon for an unlawful purpose; and possession of the gun when he was a person who was not allowed to have a weapon.
