Robos de paquetes de combate de la policía de Bayona

The Bayonne police recently began an initiative aimed at combatting the theft of packages this holiday season.  The Department has been utilizing “dummy’ packages in this effort, and it seems to be working.

The packages are equipped with GPS tracking devices to aid the police in finding the culprits who want nothing more than to ruin the holidays for Bayonne residents.  The program is being overseen by Bayonne’s Community Oriented Policing Unit, better known as the C.O.P. program, in coordination with the Detective Bureau.

The process is pretty simple.  Police place the “dummy’ packages on random porches throughout the city, as if they had been delivered by FedEx or UPS.  Then they wait for the thieves to show up, steal the item, and track them via the GPS.

A press release issued by the Bayonne Police Department states, “The Bayonne Police Department prides itself on providing a safe environment where all citizens of Bayonne can enjoy the quality of life they deserve.  Any incident that disrupts this will not be tolerated and the Bayonne Police Department will do its part to assure that the citizens of Bayonne feel safe.”

As a result of this initiative, the police have announced the following arrests to date:

– El 15 de diciembre de 2020, Rose Doria, de 53 años de edad, de Neptune Avenue, Jersey City, fue detenida desde el área de la calle 58 y JFK Boulevard después de que se la observó comportándose de manera sospechosa en el área del paquete de maniquí. Cuando los oficiales se acercaron a ella y hablaron con ella, la observaron poseer dos paquetes amazónicos que no le habían sido dirigidos. La investigación en escena llevó a la confirmación de que Doria acababa de robar los paquetes de los porches de dos residencias cercanas. Doria fue acusada de dos cargos de robo y los paquetes fueron devueltos a sus legítimos dueños.     

– El 16 de diciembre de 2020, Luis Santana, de 26 años de edad, de Columbus, Ohio, fue detenido desde el área de la calle 57 y la avenida C después de ser observado por los oficiales retirando el paquete de maniquí de un porche de una residencia de la zona. Durante el incidente de búsqueda para arrestar, se descubrió que Santana tenía dos cortadores de pelo eléctricos, más tarde determinados para ser robados de la tienda Rite-Aid (1097 Broadway) por Santana justo antes de robar el paquete de maniquí. También se encontró que Santana tenía parafernales narcóticos y una jeringa hipodérmica. Santana fue acusado de robo, robo de tiendas, posesión de narcóticos y posesión de una jeringa hipodérmica.     

So, if you are thinking of stealing a package in Bayonne, beware, you will be tracked and you will be caught.
