Un oficial de policía de Baiona arrestado, debe más de $50,000 en los peajes del puente de Baiona

Bayonne Police Officer Jeffrey Veloz was arrested on August 11, accused of being a toll cheat.  According to various news outlets, he reportedly used a mechanical device to block his license plate to avoid paying tolls for years at the Bayonne Bridge.  The sum totals more than $50,000.

Veloz, who has been a member of the Bayonne Police Department for three years, was arrested last week by the Port Authority Police Department and issued a summons.  A spokesman for the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office in Staten Island says Veloz was released.  He will be arraigned at a later date.

According to Bayonne Police Captain Eric Amato, “This particular incident remains an internal investigation and, therefore, no comment will made. Any and all inquiries shall be directed to the Port Authority of NY/NJ Police Department.”

The Port Authority Police are not commenting on the incident, except to say that an arrest was made.  The Port Authority referred all questions to the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office, which in turn directed all questions to the Port Authority Police.

Sources say Veloz has been suspended by the Bayonne Police Department, but that information was not confirmed by Captain Amato.
