BIKEWAY Grant Will Provide Improvements to River Road in 3 Towns

Hudson County Board of Commissioners Apply For DOT Grant to Improve River Road

Jersey City –The Hudson County Board of Commissioners have approved an application for a $701,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation Bikeway Grant Program for improvements to River Road.  This will promote bicycling as an alternate mode of transportation in Hudson County.

The needed upgrades would ensure cyclists safety on River Road (County Road-505) between Anthony DeFino Way/ Port Imperial Blvd and Bulls Ferry Road in the Townships of West New York, Guttenberg and North Bergen.  The scope of the work will replace existing unprotected bike lanes and sharrows with protected/buffered green surface treatment bike lanes throughout the corridor’s focus area, wherever feasible.  The intent is to upgrade the existing narrow bike lanes and sharrow markings to a protected or buffered bike lane, with little impact to existing travel lanes.

Board Chairman Anthony Vainieri, Commissioner Caridad Rodriguez and the rest of the Board of Commissioners are committed in their resolve to make North Bergen, West New York and Guttenberg a safe place for bicyclist, pedestrians and motorists.  The improvements will serve as a safer bikeway connection to access neighboring public facilities.
