BREAKING: Weehawken Board of Education President Richard Barsa Passes Away

The township of Weehawken, its Board of Education and Mayor Richard Turner sadly announced in a tweet minutes ago that Board of Education President and town Finance Director Richard Barsa, Sr. passed away this morning at a local hospital from complications of the coronavirus.

He was 65 years of age.

Barsa was lifelong resident of the township.  He spent his life serving the community he loved.  He served on the school board for 30 years, the past 25 as president.  He also spent time serving as a coach.

Barsa had been Weehawken Finance Director since 1991.

He is survived by his wife Diane of 41 years and his son Richard, Jr., along with three brothers, a sister and numerous nieces and nephews.

  1. I can not express my sadness upon hearing of the passing of Richie . While working in The Township (Police Officer. 1970-2002) I had many dealings and advice from him and it was always positive and would help in any way he can.
