Carjacked Vehicle Leads To Arrest of New York Man by Hoboken Police

Hoboken Police have arrested 19-year old Juan Murillo-Herrera of Elmhurst, New York for receiving stolen property.  According to Detective Lieutenant Danilo Cabrera, on Thursday, April 8, Murillo-Herrera was placed under arrest at 10:56 a.m. at 500 Sinatra Drive.

According to Cabrera, at approximately 10:44, Lieutenant Keith Rotondi observed a white Volkswagen traveling southbound at a high rate of speed in the area of 12th and Hudson Streets in Hoboken.  As the vehicle passed Lt. Rotondi, he observed the vehicle had no front or rear license plate and a cracked windshield.  Rotondi advised police communications of the vehicle’s description.  Moments later, Police Officer Ramon Calderon observed the vehicle traveling southbound on Sinatra Drive.

Officer Dylan Archilla then located the vehicle in the area of 500 Sinatra Drive and conducted a motor vehicle stop with Police Officer Samuel Flores. Lieutenant Melissa Gigante and Sergeant William Bullock arrived and they conducted their on scene investigation. The vehicle was occupied by three adult and two, male juveniles aged 17 and 15, both from Queens.

One of the adults was identified as Murillo-Herrera, who was the operator of the vehicle. The other two adults were males, aged 18 and 19 from Queens.

After running the VIN, it was discovered that the vehicle was reported carjacked the day  before, by force, out of Nassau County, New York.  The vehicle was towed and all five occupants were transported to police headquarters.  Murillo-Herrera was charged with receiving stolen property and a motor vehicle summons for improper display of plates. Juan Murillo-Herrera’s charge was placed on a summons and he was released. The two juveniles were released without being charged to a parent or guardian. The two other adults were also released without being charged.
