Commissioner Cosmo A. Cirillo, Ph.D., and the Column A WNY Forward Team, which includes Commissioner Margarita A. Guzman, Assemblywoman Angelica M. Jimenez, Walter Lopez, and Hiram Gonzalez want to restructure environmental services to focus on cleaner streets and quality of life initiatives in West New York. This includes introducing their Cleaner and Greener Initiative by planting more trees in town, keeping streets & sidewalks cleaner, and developing a trap, neuter, & return program for stray cats.

The West New York Forward Team wants residents to experience a cleaner and more pleasant place to live, and through their vision for enhanced environmental services, residents will have just that. They aim to contain and lessen street litter, which is unsightly, unhealthy, and dangerous, through educational campaigns to inform residents about proper waste management and recycling, clean-up events, and encouraging residents to keep WNY clean. Pet waste is also a major issue that will be addressed by reminding residents to clean up and penalize those that do not. They plan to bring more greenery by planting trees around town and adding planters where possible. This will help improve air quality and give the town a refreshed look. The West New York Forward Team also intends to create a townwide trap, neuter, and return program for stray cats in order to safely reduce the number of strays while alleviating the burden on those who have already contributed to this initiative. These efforts will lead to a healthier West New York and better quality of life for residents.

“This is the town we call home and we must work together to make it cleaner and greener. By focusing on enhanced environmental services, our residents will be able to enjoy a happier and healthier community” said Cirillo.
