Congressman Pascrell Blasts DeJoy & the USPS Again

Pascrell Blasts DeJoy, Postal Leadership

Hearing highlights why USPS must clean house

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) last week reacted to a hearing in the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on the United States Postal Service (USPS), renewing his calls for the USPS Board of Governors and DeJoy to be removed from leadership immediately.

“I have heard enough from Mr. DeJoy. Tens of millions of Americans don’t need to hear anything more from Mr. DeJoy except news of his removal, along with the entire Board of Governors,” said Rep. Pascrell, a leading supporter in Congress of USPS. “Stimulus checks, bill payments, and lifesaving medications are being held up in the middle of a deadly pandemic and deep economic crisis. Pharmacies have told patients to get their refills in early to account for continued severe delays. The reports that DeJoy and the Governors plan to eliminate the two-day first class mail window and group all mail into the already struggling three-to-five day window demonstrate loud and clear that the current leadership cannot be trusted to restore the mail delivery standards the American people expect and rely on. The entire house needs to be cleaned at the top. With new leadership, we can work with President Biden to begin the hard work of rebuilding Americans’ Post Office for the next century.”

On January 25, 2021, Pascrell became the first member of Congress calling on President Biden to fire the entire Postal Board of Governors for their silence and complicity in DeJoy’s ongoing sabotage of postal operations.

Since this crisis began, Rep. Pascrell has aggressively demanded accountability from USPS. On May 21, 2020, Pascrell wrote to USPS Inspector General Tammy Whitcomb demanding an investigation of turmoil at the USPS, stemming from a pattern of interference engineered by the Trump administration in its efforts to destabilize the post office.

On August 14, 2020 Pascrell became the first member of Congress to call for DeJoy and Trump to be investigated by a state criminal grand jury for their dismantling the Post Office, making a criminal referral to New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal alleging Trump and DeJoy subverted state elections.

On September 30, 2020 Pascrell led members of the New Jersey Congressional Delegation in a letter to Postmaster General DeJoy demanding an emergency visit to the Dominic Daniels mail sorting center in Kearny and requesting information on USPS’s ability to carry out New Jersey’s all vote-by-mail general election. In October, Pascrell made a surprise appearance at the Daniels Facility and demanded access.
